Bullet Through the Headrest – Repo Agent Gets Lucky

Attempted Murder Charges for Alleged Shooter

Park Forest, IL, May 1, 2023 – The repo angels were looking after an Illinois repossession agent last week. Four shots were fired, three at his truck and one went right through the headrest of his seat with him in it. The alleged shooter is now facing attempted murder charges for what he claimed, wait for it… he only did it because he thought it was being stolen.

Park Forest Police officers were flagged down on the 300 block of Miami Street by an unnamed repossession agent at about 3:40am last Wednesday. The agent reported to officers that he had been fired upon by a person at a nearby residence while leaving with a repossessed vehicle.

Officers arrived at the residence of 51-year-old Lorenzo Crawford who allegedly reported to them, that he believed at the time, that someone was stealing his relative’s vehicle. Crawford allegedly confessed that he had fired a “warning shot” before firing three more rounds at the rear of the tow truck as the agent wisely sped away.

Officers examining the tow truck reported that one of those bullets fired as he fled went through the drivers headrest. There were no reported physical injuries to the agent.

Later, after receiving a search warrant for Crawford’s residence, police report that they found several firearms, including the handgun believed to have been used in the incident.

Compounding Crawford’s issues is that he reported to be a convicted felon. His prior convictions allegedly include armed robbery, vehicular invasion, burglary, aggravated battery to a police officer, and drug-related offenses. As such, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Crawford has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to police. He was taken to the Cook County Jail with no bond.

Editors Note: Fortunately for the agent, he fled quickly and was unharmed. Had this occurred during a disputed and double assigned account, he could have been blocked in with no way the run. The result could have caused serious wounds or worse.

As the economy flounders and repossession volume increases, incidents like this are likely to increase in volume. Stories like this happen often without ever making the internet and are more prevalent than are ever reported.

This might be a good year to invest in steel plates for the back of truck seats and headrests. Be safe everyone.
