Borrower Accused of Stealing Repossessed Vehicle, Driving It Across Border into Mexico

El Paso investigators say the recovered collateral was taken from a secured repo lot before crossing into Ciudad Juárez.

El Paso, TX – July 21 – 2026 – A Texas man is facing felony charges after authorities allege he illegally entered a repossession storage lot, stole a vehicle that had been lawfully repossessed earlier that day, and drove it across the U.S.-Mexico border into Mexico.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the evening of July 10 to reports of a stolen vehicle from a repossession facility on the 12700 block of Sgt. Figueroa Street in East El Paso.

Investigators determined that a black 2021 Dodge Charger, valued at approximately $24,284, had been lawfully repossessed from its owner, 28-year-old Kevin Alonso Arceo, and secured at the storage lot following the recovery.

Authorities allege that later that evening Arceo unlawfully entered the property, caused approximately $1,000 in property damage, and drove away with the vehicle.

Deputies soon learned the Charger had crossed into Ciudad Juárez through the Ysleta Port of Entry shortly after the theft. Working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, investigators identified Arceo as the suspect.

On July 15, deputies located Arceo in the 11700 block of Montana Avenue near Saul Kleinfeld Drive and arrested him without incident.

He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of theft of property valued under $30,000 and criminal trespass. Bond was set at $8,500.

This is not the first such incident in El Paso. Earlier this month, CURepossession reported on another case involving a repossessed vehicle allegedly stolen from a local storage lot.

While the circumstances differ, the incidents suggest that unauthorized retrievals from repossession facilities may be becoming an emerging concern in the border region. Whether coincidental or indicative of a broader trend, the repeated cases underscore the importance of lot security, rapid law enforcement coordination, and close communication with lenders when recovered collateral disappears after repossession.
