Alabama Agent Shot in Neck Now Partially Paralyzed
Talladega, AL – February 1, 2024 – Late last October, a repossession agent employed by Allstar Recovery was critically wounded by a shotgun blast to the neck. In the Grand Jury attempted murder trial currently underway, it was disclosed that the injured agent is now partially paralyzed.
The incident occurred back on October 27th,at about 1:30am, when the still unnamed recovery agent went to the residence of 44-year-old Dexter Lamar Swain on a repossession order. According to the 24-year-old recovery agent, he had met Swain and his wife at the residence and had advised them that he was there to repossess their car and that his tow truck was conspicuously marked.
After an exchange of words, the repossessor left the scene with the vehicle repossessed and secured on the back of his tow truck. According to police, the borrower followed him.
Stopping on Nimitz Avenue, the agent allegedly encountered Swain and his wife. She is reported to have opened the door of the car they’d followed him in, and Swain lowered a shotgun with a flashlight on the end of it at the agent.
Responding to a report of gunfire on Nimitz Ave., officers approached the vehicle and found the unnamed 24-year-old Ohatchee man behind the steering wheel suffering from shotgun wounds to the back of his neck.
Emergency services were called and he was taken to Citizens Baptist Medical Center before being transferred to UAB Hospital via an ambulance. Police had characterized his condition as critical.
According to District Attorney Steve Giddens, the agent was spared taking the shotgun blast directly to his head. Giddens testified that the repossessor was shot in the neck and as the result of the injury, is currently paralyzed on one side of his body.
Giddens added that Swain’s wife’s conduct had been investigated, but it appeared that Swain had acted of his own accord when he shot the victim.
Swain was also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, violations of condition of release and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Swain had a prior arrest and indictment for first-degree rape and sodomy in 2010.
If convicted of attempted murder at trial, Swain would face 20 to 99 years or life in prison.
