Hollywood, MD – June 23-2025 – The roar of a shotgun ruptured the peace and quiet of a Sunday morning over the weekend. When it was all over, a Repossessor’s tow truck was damaged and a previously convicted felon was back in custody.
It was just about 5:20 am on Sunday morning when officers of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office got the call. Receiving the report of an assault, they sped to the scene at the 25000 block of Gallant Fox Drive in Hollywood.
Upon arrival, they met with an unnamed repossession agent who reported that he had just attempted to repossess a vehicle when the male subject emerged from the residence allegedly armed with a shotgun. Reportedly firing a shot at the agent’s truck, he then turned the weapon on the agent threatening to shoot him.
Wisely, the Repossessor fled the scene and called 911.

Investigating Deputies quickly located spent shotgun shell casings at the scene and identified the suspect as Douglas Aaron Chance, 49, of Hollywood. Chance was arrested and charged with assault first degree, assault second degree, reckless endangerment, malicious destruction of property valued at less than $1,000.
Officers soon discovered that Chance is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior convictions. As the result, his charged were compounded with new charges of possession of a shotgun after being convicted of a felony and possession of a shotgun after being convicted of a disqualifying crime.
Chance was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown awaiting a bond hearing.
