Shooting Investigation Continues

Jacksonville, FL – June 3, 2026 — Jacksonville authorities have made an arrest related to the repossession incident that preceded the fatal shooting of repossession agent Oliver Lopez, but investigators have yet to identify or charge a suspect in the homicide itself.

According to arrest records obtained from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Rockelle Jones was arrested on May 27 and charged with burglary in connection with actions she allegedly took during a dispute over the repossession of her vehicle shortly before Lopez was shot and killed.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on May 26 at the Sanctuary Walk Apartments in Jacksonville’s Brentwood neighborhood. Lopez, a repossession agent and tow truck operator, had arrived at the complex to recover a 2013 Jeep Compass registered to Jones.

According to witness statements contained in the arrest report, Lopez and another individual had located the vehicle and were in the process of attaching it to a tow lift when Jones approached and demanded that the repossession be stopped.

When Lopez continued with the recovery, Jones allegedly entered the Jeep and started the vehicle. Investigators say Lopez then entered the passenger side of the Jeep, shut off the engine, and removed the keys.

The confrontation escalated when Jones allegedly entered Lopez’s tow truck, which was occupied by Lopez’s associate, and removed the keys from the truck’s ignition. Authorities say Lopez and Jones then became involved in a physical struggle over the keys.

According to the report, a bystander intervened and assisted Lopez in recovering the keys from Jones.

Investigators allege Jones unlawfully entered the occupied tow truck during the dispute, leading to the burglary charge. The arrest report specifically states that Jones “did commit the crime of Burglary to an Occupied Conveyance prior to this shooting in relation to a dispute over the repossession of a vehicle registered in her name.”

What occurred immediately afterward remains unclear. Lopez was subsequently shot and killed during the incident, but authorities have not publicly identified the shooter or released additional details regarding the circumstances of the homicide.

Jones remains in custody at the Duval County Jail. Court records indicate she is scheduled to be arraigned on the burglary charge on June 26.

The homicide investigation remains active, and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators have not announced any additional arrests related to Lopez’s death.

CURepossession will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
