Defendant Claimed Car Was Stolen Out of Garage
Madison County, AL – April 7, 2026 – The jury has been selected. They are seated and the testimony has began in the trial of Warren Siao, who police said shot and killed repossession agency owner Jayson Click during a 2023 repossession attempt, began Monday morning.

Warren Siao is charged with the murder of Jayson Click, the co-owner of ACE Towing, LLC. Click was shot to death at Siao’s home in the 200 block of Wedgewood Terrace Road in Harvest on Dec. 13, 2024. Siao was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Siao faces life in prison without the possibility of parole, if he’s convicted.
A judge denied a pretrial motion by Siao’s attorneys before the trial began, and, according to a News 19 reporter, the morning got off to a slow start after a fire drill caused some delays at the courthouse.
The jury was seated after lunch, and it includes 10 men and four women. Two of the 14 are alternates.
After the jury was selected, each side gave opening statements.

Then the state began calling witnesses. Its first witness was Ann Click, Jayson Click’s wife, who also worked with him.
She testified that Jayson Click drove a “spotter car” with cameras to identify cars that had repo orders and then would call his towing partner.
The state then played four 9-1-1 calls: one from Bill Irwin, who was the tow truck driver that night, one from what appears to be a neighbor a few houses down and two from Siao.

During his first 9-1-1 call, Siao said that they broke into his garage and took his car down the street, so he fired a couple of rounds to “scare them off.” In the second call, Siao said he thought they were still outside and asked how long until law enforcement would arrive.
Irwin was called as the next witness by the state. He said Jayson Click located the Audi and called him.
Irwin said it isn’t their responsibility to notify someone before a repossession, but the house was in an “upscale neighborhood” and felt safe so he rang the doorbell twice with the repo order in his hand, in hopes of talking to the debtor before towing.

He testified that lights were on inside the home, but no one came to the door, so they started recovering the vehicle. He said the garage door was completely open, and they do not open doors and did not enter the premises. He added that the tow truck has visible lights on the side.
The state played a video of the repossession that appeared to be filmed by Jayson Click, showing him giving guidance to Irwin on how he should back up the truck.
Irwin testified that they were able to get the car towed to the street and were within seconds of being done when there was gunfire. He said he did not know how many shots were fired but it felt like forever.

He said he called out to Jayson Click and when he didn’t respond, he called 9-1-1.
The next witness was Siao’s now ex-wife, Katina Birtchfield. She was married to Siao at the time and they were married for about 3 years. She filed for divorce right after the shooting in December 2023.
She testified that they had multiple vehicles, which all had payments, and in the months leading up to the shooting, they had money issues and got behind on payments.
Birtchfield said they got a letter to the home regarding payments on the Audi.
The day ended with the state showing body camera footage from one of the responding deputies to the jury.
Testimony is expected to resume on Tuesday morning, and we will continue to bring you the latest on this trial as we learn more.
