St. Louis, MO – December 5, 2023 – In September, 44-year-old Repossessor Jesse Jones opened his heart up for borrower Cortrina Donaby, 30. Offering to help her move her personal property from the Jeep Grand Cherokee he had repossessed turned out to be a fatal mistake. She called 27-year-old Dwayne Davis who was charged with shooting him dead. Donaby went on the run but has finally been charged.
The deadly incident occurred on Thursday the 7th at about 1pm when Jones had arrived at an address at the 5900 block of Hamilton Terrace in St’ Louis. Jones had located the leased Jeep he
was sent to repossess, but it was loaded with the borrower’s property, and she was in the process of moving. Out of the kindness of his heart, he had agreed to help her unpack and move it at the new address.
At some time after arrival at the new address, Jones was allegedly confronted by an armed 27-year-old Dwayne Davis.
Jones was shot and died in the street wearing his bear foot slippers. The Jeep went missing.
The Capture
The lender, as it turns out, was a small car lot who had equipped the Jeep with GPS. Police tracked Davis from the crime scene the next day out of state to Cahokia Heights, Illinois.
Illinois State Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the Jeep sped away before crashing on the Poplar Street Bridge, according to court documents. State police reported that Davis was spotted exiting the Jeep after the crash and then threw a gun off the bridge.
The Call
Davis later told the St. Louis police allege that 30-year-old Donaby had called him about the repossession and had requested he “intercept” or steal the Jeep back from Jones. Jones then reportedly refused to give it up and Davis shot him dead.
Davis remains in custody and has been denied bond. He has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, 2 counts of armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with Jones’s death.
Skipped State
Cortrina Donaby, is reported to have fled town immediately after the killing. Police report that she was located out of state but has not yet been captured.
She was finally charged for her alleged role in the killing and faces charges of second-degree felony murder, which means Jones was killed while Donaby was committing another crime. She is also facing charges of robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. She will be held without bond when she is captured.
Smith
Jones was a colorful man, a resident of Elsberry, and the owner of JJ’s Towing in St. Louis. He is survived by his new wife Chrysta, sister Stephanie, and adopted adult son and a teenage daughter.
“Jesse was so kind-hearted that he offered to drive the vehicle to her new home and help her unload,” newlywed wife Christa said. ” Then, Jesse stopped answering his phone. That’s when it happened. He was my unicorn.”
Chrysta said that she knew something was wrong. The pair would talk multiple times a day to do safety checks.
Jesse was found dead in the street wearing big, furry slippers in the shape of a bear foot.
