“I just hope that Gus’s death wakes people up to the reality of this job and the people it affects.”

Under a grey winter sky on the frigid afternoon of Monday February 14th, 2022, murdered camera car driver, Gustavo “Gus” Macedo was laid to rest. In attendance were his grieving family and friends along with adjusters and agency owners from all across the state and further. Witnessed, was a showing of unity and brotherhood sadly reserved for only these solemnest of occasions.

As has become the repossession industries custom, Gus was escorted from his viewing and memorial at the Carbonara Funeral home to his final resting place at the west side of Chicago, Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Following his casket carried with honor on the bed of a flatbed truck from his repossession company employer, AssetBiz, were over fifty tow trucks representing repossession agents and owners from all across Illinois and further.

Braving eighteen-degree temperatures, adjusters, agency owners and family stood in respect and unity throughout the entire service until Gus was fully interred to eternal peace. Fierce territorial competitors under normal circumstances, stood side by side in respect and honor of one of their own. A showing of unity that is unfortunately rarely witnessed in the industry except under these darkest of times.

To Gus’s coworkers and friends, he was remembered as dear and loving person and a man they could always count on. To Gus’s family, he was the dearly beloved son of the late Prudencio Macedo and the late Ana Maria Casilas. He was also the loving Brother of Hugo, Luis, Maria, Martin and Michelle Macedo as well as the dear uncle of Denise, Andrew, Osmarly and Angelique and great uncle of Sameerah.

Gus’s brother Martin earlier stated; Gustavo was the youngest out of 6 siblings and will always be remembered as the little brother that acted as the big brother. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Whether he was at home cooking, grilling or simply just hanging out at his favorite vape shop. Gustavo was very loving towards the people he cared about. He was always willing to give a helping hand when needed or without being asked.

To his friends and family, this is all still very fresh and as one coworker put it, “Until his services, they had no idea the number of people that he touched.” Their grieving is still fresh and as his roommate put it, “The family is lost, as am I. Too many reminders.”

“I just hope that Gus’s death wakes people up to the reality of this job and the people it affects.”
