Deputies say a South Carolina recovery attempt escalated into violence, property damage, and reported firearm involvement.
Greenwood, SC – May 22, 2026 – A vehicle repossession quickly spiraled into chaos when a man allegedly broke into the car, locked himself inside, and yelled for a gun. He is now wanted by authorities after allegedly pushing a repossessor, damaging towing equipment, and escalating the confrontation.
Authorities in Greenwood County, South Carolina, are searching for a man accused of escalating a vehicle repossession into a volatile confrontation that allegedly involved property damage, physical contact, and the reported appearance of a firearm.
According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Terence Baker is wanted in connection with an April 16, 2026 incident on Ashcroft Drive. Deputies have charged Baker with breaking into a motor vehicle, malicious injury to real property valued under $2,000, and third-degree assault and battery.

Investigators say deputies responded to the location after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a repossession attempt. During the incident, Baker allegedly attempted to prevent the vehicle from being recovered by forcing his way into the collateral vehicle and locking himself inside. Authorities further allege that an individual involved in the repossession was pushed out of the way during the altercation.
Deputies said Baker also allegedly interfered with the repossession equipment by pulling on the tow controller while the vehicle was being lowered, resulting in damage to both the equipment and the vehicle itself.
According to law enforcement, the situation intensified when Baker allegedly yelled for someone inside the residence to retrieve a firearm. Deputies reported that a juvenile later exited the home carrying a firearm before quickly returning inside while still appearing to possess the weapon.
No injuries involving gunfire were reported during the incident. Authorities believe Baker may still be in the local area as the investigation remains ongoing.
