Spokane, WA – April 19, 2024 – In a serene neighborhood of fresh cut lawns and kids playing baseball in the park by the school, it was like a scene from a Norman Rockwell painting last Thursday evening. But unknown to everyone around, a borrower had allegedly pulled a knife and a gun on a repossessor and their tranquil spring evening was about to come to an end.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 pm while families were out enjoying the spring weather and a baseball game and track practices were underway. It was there that an unnamed repossession agent made an attempt to repossess a vehicle from the lot next to Shadle Park High School.

It is reported that an unidentified man had pulled a knife on the repossessor before stabbing the tire of his tow truck and then pulling a gun and firing a round into it. Retreating, the agent called police.

By the time officers arrived, the borrower had fled. Investigating officers identified the suspect, who they say was not legally allowed to own a gun due to previous felony convictions.

According to SPD, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office filed a report in late 2023 when the suspect’s girlfriend reported he was armed and dangerous. The report said the suspect was “considering engaging with police in an attempt to have them shoot him.” Borrower Gunned Down After Violent Repossession Incident

Probable cause was developed to arrest the man for drive-by shooting and unlawful possession of a firearm. Around 6:11 pm, officers were advised that the suspect was still in or near Shadle Park High School.

At 6:14 pm, officers were told that the suspect was spotted running south in the school. After a brief chase, the police cornered him and opened fire.

Many people in the neighborhood were left in shock. One woman said she can’t believe officers would shoot at someone when there are people out.

The three officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave and none were reported as injured.

The unnamed man was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery for his wounds and is expected to survive.
