New Video of Shooting Released

It’s been a week since 39-year-old Stephen Perkins was gunned down by police in front of his home during a repossession attempt. There have been protests and social media has erupted with disputes as to whether or not he was even armed and whether or not the repossession itself was valid. But caught in the crosshairs is a local tow company who claims they had no involvement and is blaming a neighboring company with a similar name.

‘All Star Towing and Recovery’ owner Heath Compton’s phone has been blowing up since the name of the company involved in the deadly repossession shooting last Friday. The social media community has been reporting that an ‘All Star’ towing company was the company involved.

But there is a lot that can be said for what goes wrong when another company with a similar name operates in your town. As it turns out, there is more than one towing company in Decatur with a very similar name.

The other company is named ‘All Star Recovery.’

Given the similarity in names, there have been some mix-ups over the years. But considering the fallout and grave nature of the incident, Compton wants to set the record straight.

“I want to share my condolences with the family of Mr. Perkins and we want to let everybody know that we were in no way involved,” Compton said. All Star Towing and Recovery is located on Central Circle and All Star Recovery is located on Poole Valley Road.

“For years, however long they have been in business here, we’ve been mixed up for that long… I get phone calls every day, sometimes 10-15 calls a day, from people looking for them because they don’t have any contact information on Google,” Compton said.

“This lady called me and she said, ‘I need a tow’ and then she says, ‘Never mind, y’all are the ones that got that boy killed,’ and hung up the phone. She never gave me a chance to explain the situation. Now that this has happened, I have to draw the line, this is too much… We have to do something,” Compton said.

Compton has met with associates of Stephen Perkins who showed up at his lot, but Compton says the meeting ended positively once they realized they were at the wrong place.

The ‘All Star Recovery” located on Pool Valley Road has no website presence and is alleged by sources to be an office of ‘All Star Recovery in Natchez, Mississippi.

The name of the lender who reportedly authorized the repossession is still unknown. Perkins’ family maintains that Perkins’ loan was not delinquent and should not have been out for repossession. They contend that the agent went to the wrong house.

Another Ring camera video from further down the street has been made public which includes audio demonstrating that officers did give verbal commands to Perkins before opening fire. Regardless, at least one neighbor felt that the officers did not give him any time to comply with the order to get down.

The incident is still under investigation and the Decatur Police Department has yet to release the bodycam footage of the incident.
