Borrower Charged with Attempted Murder
Gaffney, SC – 27 August 2019 – A man has been charged with attempted murder after he shot a repo man attempting to repossess his vehicle, according to Capt. Ron Ramsey of the Gaffney Police Department.
The shooting occurred around 7 pm Tuesday evening on Beltline Road, Ramsey said.
The unnamed victim, who according to sources, works for “Associates Asset Recovery, LLC” (AAR), was attempting to repossess a tractor-trailer truck when the owner shot him in the leg after an argument, Ramsey said.
Ramsey said the suspect, Russell Gerrod Smith, fled the scene and was later arrested in Cleveland County, North Carolina.
Smith has been charged with attempted murder, Ramsey said.
The victim was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center with unspecified injuries and is listed as being in stable condition.
