“I shot a man. I didn’t have the right to, but he didn’t have the right to pull a gun on me,”

Burlington, KY – March 13, 2024 – The old saying goes, never brings a knife to a gun fight. Wise advice in general, but a homeless borrower defied this sage advice Tuesday night. The repossessor ended up stabbed, disarmed and shot.

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported fight between a borrower and a repo agent at the Boone County Library in Burlington at about 8:30 pm on Tuesday night. The unnamed agent employed by B&B Recovery reported to detectives that he was in the process of completing the repossession in the parking lot when the suspect, 58-year-old Samad Green, emerged from the library.Repo Agent Stabbed Then Shot with His own Gun

With the best of intentions, the recovery agent told Green that he could remove any of his personal items out of his vehicle that he needed before he left. But as another old saying goes, the path to Hell is paved with good intentions.

So, according to the police, it was then that Green produced a “steak knife” from out of his 2013 Ford Escape. Rushing to the tow straps, Green then reportedly cut the strap on the driver’s side wheel, hopped into the vehicle and attempted to free his car from the lift.

At about this time, the repossessor had called 911. While on the phone with the dispatchers, the agent is reported to have told the dispatchers that he was armed and then warned Green not to approach.

I guess Green had never heard that old saying about bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Police allege that Green stabbed the agent in the hand and wrestled away his gun. In the process, he is reported to have fired several rounds. One struck the repo man in the calf.

By the time deputies arrived at the scene, Green was still at the library and still armed with the recovery agent’s gun. According to the sheriff’s department, Green surrendered and was arrested without further incident.

According to the detective’s account of his conversation with Green, he stated, “I’m probably in the wrong. I shot a man. I didn’t have the right to, but he didn’t have the right to pull a gun on me,”

Police report that Green admitted to firing one shot, but police claim to have recovered three bullet casings at the scene.

The unnamed repossession agent was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. His injuries are reported as non-life-threatening and has since been released from the hospital.

Green is reported to have been charged with assault, robbery, tampering with evidence, criminal mischief and wanton endangerment. He is being held at the Boone County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
