Man arrested for threatening to shoot repo woman

Idaho Falls, ID – January 4, 2022 – She had talked the passenger out of the car and the repossession was going smooth. That is, until twenty-seven-year-old Branson Ferguson came out of the store. That’s when, according to charges, the unnamed woman repossession agent found herself staring down the barrel of a gun.

The woman was reportedly recovering a delinquent loan for a local car dealer, Advance Auto Sales, who had sold the car to him on a “buy-here-pay-here” contract which he had fallen delinquent on.

The recovery agent reported that she located the vehicle in a parking lot at a local business and approached the vehicle. Inside was a passenger in the front seat who was advised that she was repossessing the car. The passenger was cooperative and left with their belongings.

Getting behind the wheel and driving the car away, she was heading out the parking lot when Ferguson reportedly approached her and accused her of stealing it. The woman advised him that she was repossessing it and that if he wanted to work things out, he needed to contact the dealership.

At this point, Ferguson reportedly drew a gun and pointed it at her, ordering her to unlock the car door.

The woman reported to police that she then contacted her husband who was nearby. Engaged with her husband, Ferguson became distracted and she drove away.

The woman adjuster told police that she believed Ferguson was on drugs during the incident. Responding police found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the car. In the incident report, the officer wrote that he did not recommend charges for drug possession because the car had been out of Ferguson’s possession for several days when the drugs were found.

An Idaho Falls Police Department officer who later contacted Ferguson, was told that his mother had reported the car as stolen and that he refused to meet with the officer to discuss the incident.

Unfortunate for Ferguson, the officer found that there were two warrants for Ferguson’s arrest and that he had missed court dates in two counties.

On December the 29th, the car dealer provided police a recording of a phone conversation between Ferguson. When the owner asked him about the gun Ferguson reportedly admitted to “making her aware” of the gun but denied pointing it at her.

The next day, Ferguson made an appointment to recover the personal property left in the car. Officers sat in wait with plans to arrest him, but Ferguson never appeared.

When called, several times Ferguson said that he was on his way, until finally claiming that he was out of state. Court records do not state when he was arrested.

Ferguson was charged with aggravated assault, punishable with up to five years in prison. A no-contact order was issued between him and the victim.

Ferguson is scheduled to appear in a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on January 18th in Bonneville County Court.
