Where the repossession industry gets its news

911 call audio and video of fatal repo shooting released

Victim’s name released

Fort Lauderdale, FL – September 22, 2022 – Surveillance video and 911 calls paint a more complete, but puzzling picture of the tragic repossession shooting of a borrower by a still unnamed repossession agent.

WSVN TV 7 posted video obtained from a nearby surveillance camera that captured the entire event.

In the second half of their video, the show the repossession and brief altercation in process. The tow truck had the black Chevy Malibu by the rear as the video is edited to fast forward to the next part of the video.

In the second part, we see the Malibu across the street from where it was repossessed, off the lift and on the ground.

It appears as though the repossession agent dropped the vehicle in order to lift it from the front wheels. Why he didn’t go to a further destination to do so is unknown.

It was at this point that things got ugly.

From the left of the video, we see the victim, now identified as 38-year-old Clarence King, running toward the car. He slips on the grass and falls before quickly recovering. At this point, the tow truck then reappears at the top of the screen, returning to lift the Malibu from the front.

King leaps in front of the tow truck and brings it to a stop. Once stopped, King rushed to the driver side window of the truck where it appears as though they had words. At some point in the interaction, the truck door appears to open. Whether this was done by the agent or King is unknown.

Then, the four fatal shots were fired and he fell to the ground.

The video, while not complete, shows no signs of violence leading up to the shooting and, according to witnesses, King had no weapons and was barefoot when they saw him after the shooting.

Released 911 call recording illustrates a frantic and rightly upset agent unable to even tell the dispatchers where he was.

Of a peculiar note is that the Malibu, when seen in later photos, was lifted by the front wheels by the tow truck. For reasons unknown, the agent

appears to have lifted it, even after the shooting.

King’s family members claim that the victim was visiting to visit his girlfriend and to help take care of one of his children when the incident occurred. It is reported that the victim’s young daughter witnessed the aftermath, at least.

According to the Sun Sentinel, records showed King had a history of assaults.

Fort Lauderdale Police say the still unnamed repossession agent is cooperating with investigators. The Broward State’s Attorney’s Office is determining whether to file charges according to FLP spokesperson Casey Liening.
