Repo Agent Hospitalized After Being Pinned by Tesla

Police say video captured a driver backing into a repossession agent twice during an attempted vehicle recovery outside a Washington Amazon warehouse.

Arlington, WA – October 29, 2026 – An attempted repossession of a Tesla outside an Amazon warehouse in Arlington, Washington, ended with a recovery agent hospitalized and the vehicle’s driver arrested after allegedly backing into the agent twice, pinning his leg against a tow truck.

According to KING 5 News, the driver was booked into the Snohomish County Jail Wednesday, October 28, for investigation of vehicular assault following the confrontation outside an Amazon facility at 4620 172nd Street NE.

The injured repossession agent suffered a cut and bruising around his shin, with a possible fracture, according to police documents cited by the television station.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found the agent sitting on the tow truck’s wheel-lift assembly, unable to stand or put weight on his injured leg. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

Video Allegedly Captures Two Impacts

According to a police affidavit, another member of the repossession crew recorded video of the confrontation.

Investigators say the footage shows the Tesla backing into the recovery agent, moving forward several inches, and then backing into him a second time.

The agent’s leg was reportedly pinned between the Tesla and the tow truck.

Both recovery employees began banging on the rear of the Tesla in an attempt to get the driver to move forward. Despite their efforts, the vehicle allegedly remained in place for an extended period.

The driver’s actions ultimately led to his arrest.

Driver Called 911 Before Police Arrived

According to the affidavit, the driver acknowledged knowing why the recovery crew was attempting to take his Tesla but reportedly wanted to contact his bank the following day.

He refused to exit the vehicle while the recovery crew attempted to connect it to their tow truck.

Before officers arrived, the driver called 911 to complain that the tow truck was blocking him from leaving.

Police initially regarded the situation as a civil dispute and did not immediately dispatch officers.

The driver subsequently called 911 a second time, claiming that he feared for his life.

At approximately the same time, another repossession employee contacted police to report that the driver had intentionally struck his coworker with the Tesla.

According to the responding officer’s report, the driver’s second 911 call occurred after the recovery agent had already been struck.

Investigators also noted that although the tow truck was positioned behind the Tesla, nothing prevented the driver from exiting the vehicle and walking away from the confrontation.

Arrested, but Charges Remain Pending

KING 5 reported that the driver was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of vehicular assault.

At the time of the report, prosecutors had not filed formal criminal charges.

The driver’s identity has not been independently confirmed, and no additional information regarding the injured agent’s condition was immediately available.

Neither the name of the injured agent or company they work for was released.

Another Reminder of the Dangers of Vehicle Recoveries

The incident highlights one of the most dangerous situations recovery agents can encounter: a debtor remaining inside an occupied vehicle while an attempted repossession is underway.

Whether a recovery is legally permissible under the circumstances is a separate question from whether a driver may use a vehicle against someone attempting to recover it.

Washington law places restrictions on self-help repossessions, including the requirement that recoveries occur without a breach of the peace.

For recovery professionals, the confrontation also illustrates the risks associated with working in close proximity to an occupied vehicle, particularly when a driver refuses to cooperate.

In this case, the presence of another employee recording the confrontation may prove especially important as investigators and prosecutors evaluate the driver’s alleged actions.
