Car Repossessed with 7 Day Old Baby in Back

Evansville, IN – June 6, 2024 – An unnamed woman on her way to drop off one of her children at daycare made the mistake of driving past the car dealership who she was past due on payments for her car. While she was inside dropping off her child, she came back out to find her car gone, with her 7 DAY OLD Baby inside!

It was shortly after 11am on Thursday when the unnamed mother pulled into a daycare at the 300 block of Riverside Drive. On her way, she reportedly drove past the a car dealership where she reportedly was delinquent on a loan she had taken out on the vehicle.

Arriving at the daycare center, the woman claims that she had just stepped out of the car for a second and that it was still running.

Unbeknownst to her, before she got there someone at the dealership saw her and took pursuit. Following the car to daycare center, he found the car running and drove away.

Fortunately, according to Sgt. Nick Winset, the dealership did “exactly what it was supposed to do” in this situation and called the police department to inform them of his intent to repossesses the vehicle.Car Repossessed with 7 Day Old Baby in Back

I disagree. He did that one thing right. But what he failed to do was look in the back seat.

Upon hearing the mother’s obviously frantic call, officers contacted the repossessor and advised them of the child still inside the car.

The dealership employee drove the car to a nearby auto auction where he waited for police. The obviously frantic mother was soon reunited with her baby daughter who was only seven days old.

“I am a good mom. I was dropping my son off into daycare. It was two seconds,” she told us.

Sgt. Winsett said the situation was a “big mistake”.

Neither the mother nor the man who repossessed the vehicle were charged.

EDITORS NOTE:

Hardly a year goes by without one of these stories. REPO 101 – When do you check the backseat? ONLY ALWAYS! Maybe dealers shouldn’t allowed to repossess their own vehicles.
