Ohio Repo Murderer Sentenced
Dayton, OH – May 24, 2024 – Early in the morning of July 22nd, 2023, 42-year-old Repossessor Graylon Russell was found murdered behind the wheel of a wrecked vehicle that he had attempted to flee from his killer in. His killer has been sentenced.
The murder occurred on July 22nd, at approximately 1am when Dayton Police responded to the call of a shooting at the 2900 block of Lakeridge Court. Upon arrival, they found 42-year-old Graylon Russell in a wrecked vehicle.
He had been shot several times. Rushed to Miami Valley Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Arrested was 37-year-old Myrtle Beach, South Carolina resident, Demar Leshawn Cobb.
Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. reported that Russell had gone to Lakeridge Court to repossess a vehicle when Cobb confronted him and then pulled out a handgun shooting Russell several times, before fleeing on foot.
“Mr. Cobb continued to fire shots at Mr. Russell’s vehicle as he attempted to flee,” a Dayton Municipal Court affidavit read.
A 911 caller from that early morning had told dispatchers she had heard a crash and saw the victim, later identified as Russell, inside a vehicle that hit her neighbor’s truck, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records.
Cobb was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of having weapons under disability. He has since been found guilty on all counts.
Cobb has been sentenced to serve 24 years to life in prison.
In earlier hearings, County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said that Cobb had two prior convictions in Montgomery County for having weapons while under disability, in 2016 and 2021. In 2023, he was convicted of possession of heroin and in 2011, he was convicted of trafficking in heroin.
Graylon Russell was the second repossession related murder of 2023. His murder occurred during an especially violent several weeks when there were five repossession shooting in a three-week period including the murder of 27-year-old Cody Carlin in West Virginia.
Graylon’s murder went almost unnoticed and was not well reported until a week later. Graylon Lamar Russell was a resident of Dayton. It is unknown who Russell was employed with and there was no evidence of memorial services and only a brief online memorial dedicated to him. See Here
