Lake Charles, LA – August 19, 2021 – Wednesday night, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from 20-year-old Orlandezz J. Leday, 20, of Lake Charles, reporting that his truck had been stolen from his home. By 9:30, they received a call about a shooting at a truck stop in nearby Vinton. Arriving officers found a repossessor in his truck suffering from gunshot wounds to his legs.
Authorities report that after Leday’s call to them, he and 26-year-old Deonta D. Evans left the residence in search of the vehicle. Allegedly, Leday and Evans spotted the repossessor at the truck stop and confronted him. Somewhere during their interaction, one or both of the men opened fire on the repossession agent.
Deputies located Leday and Evans on the scene and placed them under arrest. Leday and Evans were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and have been charged with aggravated second-degree battery, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal discharge of a firearm. Their bonds were set at $275,000 by Judge Tony Fazzio.
The still unnamed repossessor was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
