Nassau County, NY – November 28, 2023 – Jumping in front of a repo to stop a borrower from leaving with a car is never a good idea. Knocked to the ground and dragged; a Long Island recovery agent learned that the hard way.

On November 10th, police report that an agent of Hooked Up Towing was sent to repossess a white 2019 4-door BMW 5-Series sedan for BMW Financial Services Inc. Upon arrival, he spotted and verified the vin number of the subject unit. While in the process of lifting it, the borrower, 39-year-old Allan Allsop-Bey, charged out of the residence.

“Put it down!”, Allsop-Bey allegedly yelled, according to testimony to investigators by the repo man. But when the unnamed agent refused Allsop-Bey allegedly took it in another direction. He supposedly offered the agent $2,000. Naturally, the agent refused.

Out of options, police state that Allsop-Bey got “angry” and allegedly  shoved the agent, climbed into the tow truck and managed to lower the BMW from the lift.

Allsop-Bey then reportedly got out of the tow truck trying to get into the BMW.

Not ready to surrender, the agent then claimed that he got back into his tow truck and raised the BMW back up again. Leaving the truck and remembering to take the keys with him this time, he returned to the BMW to finish securing the car.

But Allsop-Bey allegedly got into the BMW, put the key in the ignition, revved the engine and started to leave. According to the sworn court filings, police say: “Allsop-Bey then moved his vehicle forward pushing the victim” and “knocking the victim to the floor” “and began to drag the victim with his vehicle.”

Annoyed, Allsop-Bey then got on his cellphone and called his friend, Nestor Elwin, up the block, to get out here and help him, say police.

Just a few houses away, when Allsop-Bey arrived, the repo man was getting up off the ground. But he wasn’t giving up and again stood in front of the BMW.

Allsop-Bey then allegedly called out to his friend; “Nes, move him out of the way!”

According to police, Nes Elwin then allegedly pushed the repo man out of the way, clearing a path for the BMW to leave. The court papers filed in connection with this case say Elwin was “aiding defendant Allsop-Bey in removing his vehicle and allowing Allsop-Bey to get away.”

Police state that “Furthermore,” quoting the repo agent, these guys had no “authority or permission to enter the victim’s tow truck or or to forcibly remove the White 2019 4D BMW 5-Series which was being leased to defendant.”

After 10 days, Nassau County Police finally arrested the two men. Both were arraigned that same morning before Judge Geoffrey Prime, who released both with special probation conditions.

Both were both charged with four felony counts of Robbery; under NY Penal Law 160.10 01 (Robbery aided by another), PL 160.10 02A (for a physical injury), PL 160.10 03 (for robbing a car) and PL 160.05 (3rd deg. Robbery).

Allsop-Bey is also charged with two counts of “Unauthorized Use of a Car” under NY Penal Law 165.05 01, for allegedly jumping into the tow truck and pressing buttons to allegedly steal the BMW back.

All persons accused are presumed innocent until found guilty.
