Mall evacuated after suspects flee into mall during busy Christmas shopping day

Fort Worth, TX – December 21, 2021 – The shooting of a Repossessor sparked a police chase that ended at the Hulen Mall and prompted the mall to be evacuated.

The incident began at about 11:30 on the 5000 block of Vermillion Drive when an unnamed recovery agent was shot during an attempted repossession. After driving about two miles away to safety in Kennedale, he called 911.

Soon after, Fort Worth police spotted a vehicle on Interstate 20 believed to be related to the shooting.

Officers attempted to stop the driver but the driver refused to pull over. Instead, he led police on a chase toward the mall. It was there that three people got out of the vehicle near a Macy’s department store. Two others continued in the car through the parking lot.

The three fleeing occupants near Macy’s were immediately taken into police custody.

Soon after, the driver of the suspect vehicle crashed into a barricade between two restaurants, BJ’s Brewhouse and Red Robin, and then fled on foot.

Police began searching the mall for the suspect and evacuated some shoppers and employees as they conducted their sweep. Many shoppers were traumatized by the incident.

“A weapon was recovered on scene at Hulen Mall, however, I want to clarify that there were no shots fired inside or near Hulen Mall,” Officer Daniel Segura, with the Fort Worth Police Department, told media

The repossession agent is now in the hospital, his condition is unknown.
