Repo Runaway Hits Family of Four
Atlantic City, NJ – July 4, 2024 – Fourth of July fun usually means barbeques, family, friends and fireworks. But for one woman, it was all about fleeing from the repo man by whatever means necessary. What followed ruined the holiday for her kids in the backseat as well as her victims, a woman and her four children.
32-year-old Taquanda Roberts was already arguing with an unnamed repossessor when police arrived at the 700 block of Maryland Ave 1:34pm on Thursday, July the 4th.
Responding officer Kenlyn Johnson was in the process of trying to calm things down and verify the legitimacy of the repossession and identities of the persons involved, when Roberts jumped into the 2014 Ford wagon and sped away, according to police reports.
Driving up onto the sidewalk, Robert’s reportedly struck a parked car and then ordered her children, ages not shared, into the vehicle with her.
Also on the scene, Officer Bryan Victoria-Garcia ordered Roberts out of the vehicle, but Roberts was having none of that and allegedly sped off, but not before striking another vehicle with a woman and her four children, ages 1-10, inside.
Roberts then allegedly ran from the scene but was soon located and apprehended by another officer.
All of the persons involved in the crash were treated at the scene by medical personnel and released according to police.
Roberts was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, eluding, criminal mischief and cited for 14 motor vehicle violations according to court records.
She was transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
