Desperate Borrower Rams Vehicles During Repossession Attempt
Marietta, GA – January 9, 2026 – In the quiet hours of a January night, a Marietta man’s refusal to surrender his vehicle during a repossession ignited a dangerous chain of events. What began as a routine repo quickly spiraled into property damage, a hit-and-run, and a tense confrontation with police.
Lamont Jerry Saunders, 38, of Marietta, is accused of attempting to drive his vehicle after it had already been lifted onto a tow truck at around 1:30 am on Jan. 4th at The Belaire apartment complex on Powder Springs Street, according to a Marietta Police Department arrest warrant.

Authorities say Saunders damaged the repossession truck and struck two nearby parked vehicles before fleeing the scene. When officers later ordered him to exit his residence and show his hands, he refused, the warrant states.
Saunders faces charges of obstruction of law enforcement, reckless driving, two counts of hit-and-run, and second-degree criminal damage. He was arrested at 1:49 am. on Jan. 4th and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he remains held on a $5,000 bond.
