Deputies Say Homeowner Choked and Elbowed Agent in Face After Being Shown Repo Order
Dryden, NY – October 7, 2026 – A 2:50 a.m. vehicle repossession in upstate New York allegedly turned violent Tuesday when a homeowner placed a recovery worker in a chokehold and struck him in the face with his elbows, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the 200 block of Lake Road in the Town of Dryden early October 6 following a report of a dispute involving a vehicle repossession.
According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, the recovery worker had attempted to repossess a vehicle when he was confronted by the homeowner.
The worker reportedly provided documentation showing that the vehicle was being repossessed for a bank, but deputies said the homeowner continued to defy the repossession.
The confrontation then allegedly became physical.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the homeowner placed the recovery worker in a chokehold that restricted his airway. Deputies further allege that the worker suffered facial injuries after being struck with the homeowner’s elbows during the altercation.
Deputies arrested 44-year-old Jeffrey B. Myers of Dryden and charged him with Assault in the Third Degree and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing.
Myers was processed and released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Dryden Court on November 2 at 5:00 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the recovery worker, repossession company, creditor or vehicle involved.
Myers has been charged but not convicted. The allegations against him remain accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
