2022 “A Year of Violence”

Limited research exists about violence against the men and women in the asset recovery profession. However, studies do show that violence is regularly directed at the members of this little understood profession, and the incidents appear to be increasing.

While there is no national method for reporting and/or documenting attacks against the employees in the recovery profession, Ron Brown has conducted surveys, either independently or through the Eagle Group XX/USA, regarding threats and violence against the asset recovery profession. The research and analysis of these surveys has revealed that threats and violence in the recovery profession occur frequently in both urban and rural locations.

You will not want to miss this timely and much needed all new session to be presented at the ALLIED FINANCE ADJUSTERS MIDYEAR CONVENTION, November 8, 9, and 10 at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The results of Ron’s investigation will provide a rare insight into the nature and frequency of work-related threats and violence experienced by active members of the asset recovery profession, the overwhelming majority of which have never been publicly reported. The results also show that contrary to public perception, members of the recovery industry are not exempt from various types of violence but, in fact, regularly face danger from consumers, third parties, and their own employees which may occur at any place and at any time. The following represent only a few of the locations where violence occurred so far this year:

New Orleans, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Oakland, Miami, Phoenix

By attending this Continuing Education Safety Training Session and you will gain valuable insight into the following areas:

  • Preventive Strategies,
  • Recognizing the Signs of Potential Threats, and Violence,
  • Recognizing and Understanding the Profile Model and the Signs of Danger Model which enable violence prediction,
  • The Value of Preparation and Training,
  • Active Shooter Response Procedures,
  • The Importance of Controlling Access,
  • Notification and Assistance,
  • How to Avoid Being a Target,
  • How to Defuse a Situation, and the Last Resort, Physical Response.

This program has been designed and will be presented by an active member of our industry who each day faces the same challenges that each of us face every time we hit the streets or come face to face with a consumer and is instructed with a singular purpose, to help asset recovery agency field agents and support staff recognize and avoid potential violence which may result in injury or death.

In today’s dangerous and volatile environment, whether it be on the urban streets of highly populated cities or the dusty backroads of America’s Heartland, Asset Recovery Specialists and all support staff should never discount the reality that work-related threats and violence can come at any time and from any direction. At the recovery site, beyond the recovery site, on the road to the storage lot, on agency property and at the agency office.

Recognizing the reality of potential violence in the asset recovery industry is a first step in helping to avoid and prevent becoming the victim of work-related violence. The second step is knowledge and preparation and gaining this knowledge vastly outweighs the potential costs of a violent encounter.

Applying the relatively simple and feasible preventive steps which will be presented in this program can assist all people in our industry to recognize, avoid and prevent violent situations before they occur and if there is no alternative, how to properly respond and defend if the situation cannot be avoided.

As a “BONUS” each person attending this session will be instructed on the 4 lifesaver items that should be in every agency office as well as in every recovery vehicle and camera car and how and when to properly use them. These easily available items may be easily obtained and are utilized every day in emergency situations by first responders.
