Repo gunfight at the Red Dot Storage

Greenwood, LA – October 4, 2022 – It’s unclear who fired first, but a verbal altercation between a repossession agent and a borrower ended in a gun fight, an apartment break-in, a flipped Denali attached to an RV trailer, a bullet to the head and a crazed but lucky borrower. After the dust settled, both men were arrested.

It was just before 10:30am on Tuesday morning when dispatchers for the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting shots having been fired at the Red Dot Storage at the 8800 block of Greenwood Road in Greenwood.

According to Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator; “A man came from out of town to check on two 18-wheelers that they were going to repossess. When he was out here checking on those – he was confronted by the man who had the 18-wheelers mortgaged.”

Allegedly, heated words were exchanged. Guns were drawn by both men and the gunfight began. It’s unclear who drew arms first or who fired first.

And that’s when things started getting really wild.

Sheriff Prator reported that the unnamed borrower then ran across the complex into the Greenwood Elderly Apartments and broke into a unit. According to the occupants, he was acting “all crazy.”

Prator stated that the man ran back to the Red Dot Storage lot and jumped into a GMC Denali pickup, towing an RV. He then got into another gun battle with a Greenwood Police officer who had just arrived at the scene.

The frantic man then ended up crashing into the driver of an 18-wheeler who just happened to arrive near the gate to the facility when all the chaos was erupting.

“He was trying to escape, hits the18-wheeler and hits the building and turns upside down,” Prator says of the wounded owner of the trucks that were to be repossessed.

The Denali towing the RV could be seen on its side in a drive alongside storage units.

Terrance Grigsby, who was trying to park his 18-wheeler loaded with pipe, described the repo man urging him to call 911 after he first pulled onto the lot. Grigsby then opened the gate for Caddo deputies that were arriving on scene, before pulling his rig forward.

Next thing I know, a big RV and truck come around the corner. The RV started to laying over. When the RV laid over, the truck pulling it started laying over with it and it laid right into my 18-wheeler,” Grigsby said.

The borrow narrowly escaped a gunshot to the head as evidenced by the graze of the round across the top of his shaved head.

“Thank goodness no one’s in life-threatening condition — but it’s a mess,” said the sheriff.

The unnamed man was later sent to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. No officers were injured but Prator stated that there was a lot of property damage.

The also unnamed repo man was not wounded and was interviewed by police. Prator added that they do not know who shot first and that the man injured was grazed by the repo man’s bullet.
