Tellico Plains, TN – November 27, 2021 – A man who reportedly tried to run over a recovery agent attempting to repossess his car on November 19th is being sought by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. When captured it is expected that he will be charged with aggravated assault.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Bryson reports that he went to a home on Reagan Valley Road in Tellico Plains at about 7:30 pm on November 19th. Upon arrival, police talked to Nathan Smith, Christopher Bratten and Floyd Lively, three men who had attempted to repossess a Nissan Altima from Mark Burress Jr.

Recovery agent Smith told Deputy Bryson that they had arrived at the address and pulled in behind the car to block it in. He then attempted to get into the car, but the borrower, Burress managed to get inside first. Smith claimed that Burress then started the car and attempted to run him over with it. Smith managed to get out of the way, but Burress then sped away in the Nissan.

Repossessor, Nathan Smith testified to deputy Bryson that he believed Burress intended to run him over and perhaps even killing him.

Officer Bryson reported that 38-year-old Burress of Tellico Plains, will be facing charges of aggravated assault when captured.
