Columbus, MS – January 26, 2022 – He was just pulling away from the address and nothing unusual had occurred, stated Frank Stumpf, owner of Atlas Recovery and Towing. Startled by a noise to his left, he turned and notice the glass of the driver side window was shattered. Then he spotted the bullet hole. It was then that felt the blood dripping down his face.
In Frank’s 22 years in the repossession and towing business he’d done dozens of repossession. But he had never imagined having to dodge a bullet while doing it, but that’s just what happened Tuesday night.
“After we pulled out we got to a house or two down the road and I look to my left and there was a hole in my window I could feel the side of my face bleeding so I went ahead and called 911 and went to the emergency room,” said Stumpf.
“We were not trying to take anything away from anyone at that point we were just leaving and usually if you feel like you’re leaving you’re safe,”
“We pick up a lot in public places and you know it a lot safer for us to pick something in a public place than at a residence. I’m not going to kill someone for a car and I don’t want them to kill me for a car. I’m doing my job. It’s nothing personal,” said Stumpf.
Stumpf said that violent confrontations happen sometimes, but it had never gone this far.
While not relevant, it is unclear if Frank had actually recovered a vehicle or was just running an address. Regardless, everyone in the repossession community is happy that Frank was spared any major harm.
At time agents come under physical attack or gunfire merely because debtors or their neighbors know why they are there.
