Arrest Made for Attempted Murder of Repossession Agent

Knoxville, TN – February 5, 2026 – There has been a flurry of shooting on repossession agents around the country lately. Like I always say, most don’t even make the local news unless someone is injured. Here’s a story just like that.

The unnamed repossession agent had reportedly arrived at the Hayworth Drive residence of 55-year-old James Dotson to repossess a Toyota truck at about 6pm on January 29^th. According to reports, as the agent attempted to recover the truck, Dotson exited his home and fired multiple rounds at him.

The agent fled the scene and contacted authorities. The agent was reported as not having been struck or injured and there is no mention of damage to his tow truck.

By the time officers arrived, Dotson has already fled.

But the gig was up on Wednesday afternoon when KPD Officers, Special Operations Squad personnel and Homicide Unit detectives took Dotson into custody on the charge of attempted first-degree murder right back at his home on Hayworth Drive where it all went down.

After taking Dotson into custody, officers located multiple guns in his home. In addition to the attempted first-degree murder charge, Dotson, who has a prior felony conviction for reckless endangerment, was also charged with employing a firearm with the intent to go armed and convicted felon in possession of a weapon.

Dotson is being held in the Knox County Jail.
