Just before 9pm on Tuesday the 7th, gunfire was heard in the Black Oak area of Beckley Road. Soon before, a representative of F5 Investigations of Bluefield called Mercer County Emergency Dispatch to inform them of the repossession of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado in Kegley.
According to the complaint, the rookie repossession agent found the truck near the residence with the key in the ignition. Successfully recovered, he left with a coworker in a white SUV toward Princton unaware that a family member and another person had called the borrower advising him that his truck had been stolen.
23-year-old Terry Joy headed home to see what was going on when, according to the complaint, Joy saw his truck and turned into the other lane, cutting off his repossessed truck. Joy claimed in the complaint that he approached his truck with hands up and asked the driver what he was doing.
The rookie agent sped off. According to the complaint, Joy discharged a firearm at the repossessed truck about 13 times.
According to Joy’s statement in the complaint, he then jumped back into the truck he was driving and took pursuit. Chasing it into the parking lot of a liquor store, Joy is reported to have fired another 27 rounds into his repossessed truck while the agent was inside.
The white SUV following the repo agent stopped, pulled the injured victim from the repossessed truck and rushed him to Princeton Community Hospital. He was later transported to a Roanoke hospital.
The so far unnamed repo agent is reportedly a married father of five.
Joy then took possession of the Silverado and drove it back to his residence.
Police investigated and, according to the criminal complaint, they observed multiple bullet holes in Joy’s truck, including the back rear glass which was shot out. A 9 mm Glock and an extended magazine were recovered from inside the residence and a magazine and 9 mm shell casing was recovered from inside the other truck Joy had been driving.
Joy is incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
The rookie repossession agent’s identity remains at this time unknown but, April Garrett, a coworker from F5 Investigations has established a GoFundMe page to help with his expenses.
April states: Hello, I’ve started this gofundme for our employee that was shot last night. He was on his first shift as a repo agent/driver and was shot 5 times. He’s currently in critical condition. He has five young kids at home and a wife. We’re asking for help for medical bills, travel, anything and everything else that will be needing in the coming days, weeks and months. This poor man was gunned down while simply trying to do his job. Now he’s fighting for his life. Not to mention it’s just weeks before Christmas. Please donate if you can, share, and most of all keep this whole family in your prayers!!!
Thank you so much!
