There are no safe jobs in the repossession industry. By now, most everyone in the inner cities knows what a camera car is and what it’s there for. Unfortunately, for 35-year-old Gustavo Macedo, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. All reports suggest that this was a robbery that went bad and now, Gustavo, his family, friends and coworkers are trying to make sense of this senseless murder.
Chicago police still have no suspects and no arrests.
Chicago, like most major American cities, is suffering record high murder and crime rates and situations like this are bound to be all too common until the world gets back to normal, if ever. It wasn’t long ago that a camera car driver was fortunate to escape injury when his car was shot up with 25 9mm rounds in Chicago. It’s only been a little over six-months since a similar murder occurred to Tim Nielsen in Oakland, California and his murder was very similar.
The risks in the repossession industry are higher now than ever. While Gustavo is the first repossession employee murdered in 2022, he will not likely be that last. Over the past hundred years of this industry there have been far too many men killed in the line of business, more than anyone has ever kept record of. It’s just the nature of the business, but these days, danger is around every corner and something as simple as taking a nap or a bio break in a parking lot can get a person killed.
I urge everyone to please be careful out there. No stupid car is worth dying over. Stay alert, trust your gut and stay alive.
God Bless you all and especially the family of Gustavo Macedo.
