Man Pleads Guilty to Knife Slashing of Repo Man

New Church, VA – 1 December 2017 – A New Church man who slashed the tire of his car and cut a repo man who had come to repossess the vehicle pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding in Accomack County court.

Carlos Wise, 38, was in court Thursday to face a felony charge of malicious wounding in connection with the incident in June. A sentencing date was not set.

Wise became infuriated when he saw two men who came to his house with a truck to take his car away on June 13, the court heard.

As they started to hook his car to their truck, Wise came out of his house and tried to get into the vehicle, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Elizabeth Wolfe told the court.

She said the men told him he would be able to retrieve his belongings once they got it hooked up.

“If you want to take my car, take my car, but I will slash the tires first,” Wolfe said Wise told them.

She said Wise went into his house, got a knife and slashed the rear driver’s side tire. She said he came toward the victim who held up his arm and was cut by the knife.

“Mr. Wise had asked to get his belongings,” said defense attorney Theresa Bliss.

She said he admitted slashing the tire on the car and admitted his knife made contact with the victim.

“He didn’t realize it in the heat of the moment,” she told the court.

She said Wise spent three months in jail on this charge and was now free on bond. She asked that he be allowed to remain on bond as he is employed at a local chicken plant.

Wolfe said she had no objection and Judge W. Revell Lewis III granted her request.
