Tesla Risk Alert for Saturday March 29th!

In light of the ongoing recent news about actions against Tesla due to political issues and the call for action on Saturday, March 29^th against Tesla, RSIG would like to caution all repossessors who may be storing these vehicles. While we do not think that repossession lots would be targeted specifically, any/every Tesla electric vehicle is potentially a target – and repossessors are already seen as foes by most of the general public.

It could be easy for actual or “wanna be” political activists to start to target locations other than Tesla dealerships, but it could be even more likely that ill intended vandals or debtors with grudges could use the Tesla issue simply as a way to just cause hate and discontent or to get back at a repossessor or lender.

So you’re encouraged at this point to be extra vigilant in your lot security and exercise caution in how and where these vehicles are stored. We know from prior speakers at our annual conferences that fires involving electric vehicles can burn hotter, longer and potentially cause more damage.

Obviously fire set to a Tesla may not only impact the Tesla if the fire spreads, so storing those vehicles away from other vehicles and checking the area for dry grass/vegetation where fire could spread would be good ideas to mitigate the risk and potentially save deductible dollars.

One interesting untested scenario at this point is will insurance companies deny coverage to Tesla vandalism related claims, if viewed as an act of domestic terrorism as terrorism is generally excluded from most insurance policies? The impact of electric vehicles on the industry in terms of how to store them, how to tow them and how to charge for the repossession of them is often discussed and debated, this may be another topic that ramps up in the future.
