Beaumont, TX – November 28, 2023 – The woman who crushed the leg of a car dealer at a strip club parking lot has plead guilty. She faces up to 2 to 20 years in prison.
On Monday, Carla Culver, 47, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury during a hearing in Judge John Stevens’ courtroom. She faces as much as 20 to years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Her sentencing is scheduled for a later date but does leave her eligible for probation.
Culver is charged with driving crimes related to an incident on September 29 outside Temptations Cabaret on College Street in Beaumont where she attempted to thwart a repossession attempt on her Hyundai Elantra.
According to charges, police responded to a reported auto-pedestrian accident on September 29th outside of Temptations Cabaret on College Street in Beaumont. Officers found an unnamed man on the ground and lying on his back. His leg was “ripped up” and bleeding profusely with his foot turned to the side.
It was determined that he was an employee of a car dealer attempting to repossess the vehicle.
Police reported that it appeared as though his leg had been smashed between two vehicles. Upon arrival, the Beaumont EMS listed him in critical condition and rushed him to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was administered emergency surgery.
Witnesses of the event reported to police that the repo man was attempting to repossess a Hyundai Elantra from 47-year-old Carla Culver. The agent was reported to have been under the hood and in front of the car when Culver drove the vehicle forward. The agent’s leg was then reportedly smashed between the two vehicles.
Culver is reported to have confessed to detectives that she had seen and heard the victim underneath the hood of the car. She claimed that she intentionally placed the car in drive but wasn’t sure how the car accelerated forward.
Investigators reported that “whether or not Culver’s intentions were to harm the victim, she was reckless in her decision to drive the vehicle forward with the hood up,” knowing that the man was still in front of her vehicle.
Culver has been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury of Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a 2nd Degree Felony. If convicted, she faces a possible 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
There is still no report as to the condition of the injured recovery agent following his emergency surgery.
