Agent allegedly Threatened Borrower

Port Lucie, FL – January 27, 2024 – Last Friday, confessed shooter of a 28-year-old repossessor, Omar Sueque attended his first hearing on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. In his hearing, he made allegations that the agent had threatened him. Allegations that are supported by the video footage showing the agent chasing the borrower after getting punched.

As previously reported, last Thursday afternoon at about noon, a repossession agent, now identified as 28-year-old Tristan Hastings attempted to repossess a vehicle on the 2000 block of Southwest Villanova Road. It was there that he encountered the borrower, 59-year-old Omar Sueque.

As can be seen on video, Sueque placed himself between his car and the tow truck yelling, “Hey, get out, this is private property,” and “I have cameras here.” Undaunted, Hastings can be seen ignoring th eborrower and edging his truck further back toward the car.

Infuriated, Sueque can be seen charging up to the truck and punching Hastings through the open truck window. Equally outraged, Hastings leapt from his truck and chased after Sueque.

Interviewed by WPTV news, Repossessions Inc. owner Bill Kelly of Fort Pierce watched the video and stold them that he was surprised that the tow truck driver followed Sueque.

“What did he get out of the car for and chase the guy? He should have just continued with what he was doing and left,” Kelly told them. “I’ve had people, a pregnant woman, lay down between the car and the tow truck. Obviously, you get out of Dodge, you don’t want to be involved in a situation like that.”

That’s when things got way out of control.

Not seen on the video, Sueque admittedly went into his house and returned with a gun. Exactly how many rounds were fired is unknown, but Hastings was hit with six rounds at close range through the driver’s side window and cab according to Port St. Lucie police Chief Richard Del Toro when interviewed by WPTV.

“We’re fortunate this didn’t end in a fatality,” Del Toro told the reporter. “I mean six times, it’s just amazing.”

Hastings fled for safety and drove around the corner where he went to a neighboring residence and called 911. Police and emergency services located him and found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.Repossession Agent Chased Borrower Before Being Shot

Hastings was airlifted to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. It is reported that he is expected to recover, but four of the bullets are still in him.

Responding Police arrested Sueque at the scene of the crime without incident.

Too Close to Home

WPBF reporter Angela Rozier interviewed another local repossessor in the area on Friday.  Tre Smith of Off the Chain Towing and Recovery said that he cut his workday short Thursday after he heard about the shooting.

“It’s a little too close to home,” Smith said. “I’m on my way to do the same thing, so can I make it back home?”

Smith said he and the victim work in the same areas.

” My heart goes out to him, and his family and we offer our condolences,” Smith said.

The Shooters Defense

On Friday morning, Sueque appeared before a St. Lucie County judge and pleaded his case.

“I have cameras at home that was filming at the time that everything happened,” Sueque said. “They are six to seven feet away from what happened, and my accusations are based on video taken from 200 feet away, they never mentioned the person made personal threats against me.”

Sueque is facing one count of attempted homicide and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. As of Friday, he is being held without bail.
