Tallahassee, FL – 28 April 2021 – Police arrested a Tallahassee man on multiple charges after he allegedly put a gun to the head of a repossession agent in the process of repossessing his car.
21-year-ol Jamari Adams was arrested Thursday on charges of carjacking with a firearm, possession of marijuana and leaving the scene of a crash. He was released on bail Saturday.
Police report that the incident began when a repossession agent was repossessing Adams’ 2018 Nissan Altima in the Villa San Michele complex in west Tallahassee.
The repossession agent allegedly hooked the car up to his truck and got in the driver’s seat of the Nissan when Adams followed, got into the passenger seat and pointed a handgun at his head saying he’d kill him if he didn’t get out of the car, police said.
The agent told police that he fled the car and immediately called 911.
While the driver was on the phone with police, Adams backed the car — which was suspended over three feet in the air — off the truck and drove away, according to records. In the process of fleeing, Adams damaged a curb, the complex’s landscaping and struck a pole holding a utility box, police said.
Adams soon returned to the complex where after searching him, police found a plastic bag holding marijuana in his pocket, records show. He was then arrested and taken to the Leon County Detention Facility.
Since the car was in the tow truck driver’s possession, Adams was charged with armed carjacking. Adams confirmed to police that he did have a gun, later found between a gutter and the wall of the building.
