Rolled downhill with driver chasing it on foot
Vernon, CT – January 19, 2023 – Oh, the shame. It’s bad enough damaging his tow truck and some private property. But getting caught on a Ring camera chasing your truck barreling down the hill with the car you’d just repossessed in tow, has got to be one of the worst things an agent can experience.
Early Wednesday morning, 2:59am, according to the Ring camera video, a home surveillance camera caught an unusual sight; a tow truck rolling downhill at a relatively slow speed and passing 104 Union St.
According to Vernon police, the tow truck had just repossessed a vehicle further up the street and was attached to the tow truck. Although the actual video is unavailable, according to police, the agent can be seen chasing the unmanned truck on foot.
According to the resident, the truck began to turn and eventually hopped the curb before slamming into a small hill and iron fence at a one-hundred and twenty year old building at 107 Union St. The wrecked fence and tire marks could be seen at the address Wednesday morning.
Vernon police report that the tow truck, a Ford F-450, is owned by a company based in Waterford. The driver apparently either mixed up the gears, neglected to apply the parking brake or the brake slipped, according to police.
No physical injuries were reported, according to police. But there’s no telling of the emotional injuries done to the repo agent and agency owner.
