Where the repossession industry gets its news

Repo agent punched and windows shattered by irate 18-year-old borrower

with a deadly weapon

Denton, TX – 27 November 2021 – An 18-year-old man was arrested on three different charges Friday afternoon after an incident which allegedly began with yelling at a repossession agent during an attempted repossession of his vehicle and escalated to punching him and smashing his truck windows according to a police report.

Officers arrived at the 500 block of South Carroll Boulevard at about 3:15 pm in response to a  call from a recovery agent that reported the 18-year-old had assaulted him and was threatening to smash out his truck windows. The agent then advised the officers enroute that the man had followed through on the threat.

As soon as officers had arrived, the report claims that they found the 18-year-old leaving, and he “initiated his own detention” by throwing down his belongings and placing his hands behind his head. Officers interviewed both men involved as well as a witness and learned that the repossessor had already began to lift the man’s vehicle off the ground affecting the repossession when the borrower began yelling at him in protest.

The irate 18-year-old borrower then reportedly told the agent to put the car down. It was then that a verbal altercation ensued during which he punched the driver twice, according to the report. The borrower then allegedly pulled out a wooden mallet and threatened to hit him with it and smash out the windows of his truck. At this point he got into his truck and called the police. While the agent was on the call, the 18-year-old man then allegedly threw the mallet, smashing the back window of the truck and striking him in the head with shards of glass.

The repossessor had no serious injuries and police determined all three parties, both agent, borrower and the witness, had provided the same account of the incident. The 18-year-old man was then arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault causes bodily injury and criminal mischief between $750 and $2,500.
