Repossession Ride Along Leads to Injury

Cleveland, OH – 28 August 2018 – A woman is accused of hitting the brother of a repo man who came to take her car that was parked in front of a daycare.

The 29-year-old woman has not been arrested or charged, but was named in the police report.

The incident happened about 10:20 a.m. Monday outside of the Oakfield Child Enrichment daycare on East 120th Street and Union Avenue in the city’s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood.

The repo man, Jeffrey Harris, said he spotted the car, a 2011 Buick Regal, in front of the daycare and called a tow truck.

His brother, Lashawn Bogard, 38, was riding along with his brother and got out of the car, both Harris and Bogard said.

The woman spotted Bogard, who said he previously repossessed a different car from the woman, and ran out of the daycare center, according to Harris and police reports.

The daycare manager said the woman was trying to enroll her child in the daycare.

The woman jumped in her car and tried to drive away. She put her car in reverse and backed into Bogard, who was standing behind the car, police reports say.

Bogard got pinned between the woman’s car and a car parked in the space behind her, police reports say.

Harris and Bogard said they both screamed at the woman to stop driving.

“I don’t think she saw him,” Harris said. “I think she was more focused on the repo truck. But we were both screaming at her to stop but she didn’t care.”

The woman sped away and hit another car that belonged to one of the daycare staff members, police reports say.

Cleveland police officers drove around the area and eventually spotted the car about a mile away on Glendale Avenue near East 131st Street, police reports say. The car was towed, but officers did not find the woman.

The daycare gave investigators surveillance video from the incident.

Bogard suffered injuries to his lower left leg and left foot. He was taken to University Hospitals, where he was treated and released.

“I’m still in a little pain,” Bogard said. “I could have been killed though. It’s crazy.”
