Austin, TX – 2 January 2020 – Felony Charges have been filed against a man who punched and dragged a man under his car after he attempting to repossess it at a gas station in Austin.
Rondrecus Deaundre Scott, 36, of Killeen, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
The incident happened Nov. 15 at an Exxon gas station at 11613 FM 620 North, in part of Austin that is in Williamson County, the affidavit says. The victim was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries including one that required staples in his head, according to the affidavit.
It said Scott had stopped making payments on a Nissan Altima that he had financed through a business where the victim worked.
The victim had sent Scott a text saying the payment was late but Scott never responded, the affidavit says. It says the victim and his manager found Scott in the vehicle parked at the gas pumps at the Exxon gas station at 10:10 a.m. on Nov. 15.
The victim, who had struck up a friendship with Scott when Scott had come into the car business on previous occasions, approached Scott and said he needed to take the car, the affidavit says.
Scott said “I don’t think I can do that,” according to police. The victim, who was standing at the open driver’s side door, then reached into the car to turn off the push start button, the affidavit says.
It says Scott hit the victim in the stomach and then put the car in reverse, causing the victim to get caught between the door and door jamb.
Scott then went into reverse, drove the car forward and caused the victim to be flung into the bumper and tire of the truck that the victim’s manager had parked in front of Scott’s car, the affidavit says.
Surveillance video showed that there was “no possible way” Scott didn’t know that the victim was still caught in the car as Scott drove forward, the affidavit says.
Scott was being held in the Williamson County Jail on Thursday with bail set at $50,000.
