New CA Bill Would Stop All Repossession and Collections Activity in California for the Foreseeable Future
Assembly Bill 2501 (AB-2501) is another attempt to create negative barriers in the repossession industry, under the guise of consumer protection. A week and a half after the Los Angeles City Council introduced their proposal to ban repossessions in the city of Los Angeles, AB-2501 is now being heard in the Assembly and Banking Finance Committee on May 19th, 2020. Included in AB2501 is a 6-month moratorium/ban on all repossessions in the state of California.
Although the author of this bill may have good intentions, this bill will be financially devastating to the consumer.
On April 21st CALR and their lobbyist had a call with the Governor’s office. CALR has followed up with a letter to the Governor’s Office as well as E-mails.
On April 30th the city of Los Angeles requested the above ban.
CALR is meeting with all of the stakeholders regarding this bill. We will continue and advise.
The stakeholders are lined up like Rockettes and this will be a fight to be remembered.
We need your donations to pay our lobbyist to fight this bill in Sacramento.
Respectfully submitted,
Joe Collins
CALR legislative Liaison
