Where the repossession industry gets its news

Argument Over Repossession Leads to Murder

Aberdeen, MS – 17 April 2019 – A dispute over a vehicle being repossessed leads to a man’s death, and a woman being charged with his murder. Aberdeen Assistant Police Chief Quinell Shumpert said the case stemmed from a vehicle being repossessed.

“Supposedly, she called the place that Moses had bought the car from. They hadn’t been making the payment. They were hiding the van out. She called and told them where the van was. Then they called her angry about it. She went over and confronted him about it. An argument ensued, and she pulled a weapon and shot him,” he said.

31 Year Old Lillian Cayson

According to the Aberdeen Police Department, 31-year-old Lillian Cayson shot and killed 39-year-old Mose Lee Daniels.

The shooting happened Tuesday night at a home on 609 Baptist Street in Aberdeen.

When police arrived on scene, the victim was found shot to death lying outside the home.

“I heard the gun shot and everything,” said Byron Sims, who lives on the street where the incident happened. “The street was blocked off, cars were everywhere, flashing lights were everywhere, nobody couldn’t go anywhere, nobody could even move.”

Nearly 24 hours later, family and friends gathered outside the home still devastated over what they call a nightmare.

“It’s just tragic man, it’s just sad,” Sims expressed.

“When tempers get involved and you have access to weapons that’s what happens,” said Chief Randle.

Investigators said Cayson and Daniels knew one another.

Police believe the two got into an argument over a vehicle that led to the gunfire.

“From my understanding, something about repossession of a vehicle and one thing led to another, basically got caught up in some he say she say and it just escalated out of control,” the chief recalled.

Cayson was taken into custody shortly after the alleged incident happened.

After she was arrested, Randle said the suspect confessed to the shooting.

Investigators were also able to recover the weapon they believed was used in the crime.

“I just couldn’t believe that someone was dead behind a heated discussion, but like I said sometimes things can escalate and we have regrets later, but you can’t bring back someone that’s been shot,” said Randle.

Investigators said Cayson also had simple assault charges pending prior to the current murder charge.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said the cause of death appears to be a single gunshot wound. He said Daniels’ body will be taken to the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory in Pearl for an autopsy.

On Wednesday, Cayson appeared before a judge who set her bond at $150,000.

Randle calls the incident a senseless act that he believes could’ve been avoided.

“To me just about anytime you take a person’s life based off of he say she say, or an argument, both families loses because you have one in the family that’s deceased, and then you have another one that’s probably going to be sent off for a long time,” Chief Randle explained.

The case will now be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.
