As we approach year end, we at CALR continue to move forward with purpose and commitment. In keeping with our goal of greater transparency, I want to share an update on our recent activities and progress.
Our CALR meeting on December 4th focused primarily on building support for our legislative program. A number of important topics were discussed, but the core objective was ensuring CALR maintains a strong and effective presence in the state capital.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the following individuals and organizations for their support and commitment:
- Nation’s Recovery – Jason Reed
- Daybreak Metro – James McNeil
- Coastline Recovery – Bob Mehr and Onnie
- ABA – Marcelle Egly-Sparks
- Swift Recovery – Anni Manukyan
- Benchmark Asset Resolutions – Michael Farhood
These contributors are helping ensure our industry continues to have a voice in Sacramento. Once that voice is lost, we risk having little to no control over decisions that directly impact our businesses. We encourage others to step forward and get involved—every contribution matters.
I was very pleased with the turnout at the CALR meeting, with special recognition to Tow Industries for their contribution. Members also had the opportunity to hear directly from our state lobbyist, who outlined the plan moving forward.
As part of that plan, CALR will be forming two committees:
- A committee dedicated to our legislative program
- A committee focused on working with our bureau at the DCA
By all measures, the meeting was a success, and I plan to schedule additional meetings in the new year. To be more inclusive, our next meeting will be held in Sacramento, followed by a return to Los Angeles. Our long-term goal remains restoring CALR to the gold standard of the Repo Rodeo.
In other news, CALR recently held its first meeting with BSIS and the Bureau Chief. I would like to thank Leon Scroggins for helping make that meeting possible. Our objective is to move toward in-person meetings beginning next month, followed by regular meetings every other month. We are committed to changing the narrative with BSIS, and open communication is the foundation of that effort.
Regarding recent changes being implemented by Santander and Tesla, following our last article on this topic, CALR has engaged in several conversations with PK to explore a more practical and effective path forward for California agencies.
As always, we appreciate your continued support. We wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season, and please stay tuned in the coming weeks.
Remember—our industry is stronger when we work together.
