Chicago, IL – February 20, 2026 – “Hey, can you come armed with a fully automatic modified pistol and do security for us while we do a repossession?” Gee, what could go wrong? I’m sure they got asked to do this all the time!
In a strange undercover federal takedown, 27-year-old Edwin Moreno of Chicago has been slapped with serious charges for possessing a prohibited machine gun after strutting into what he thought was a routine security detail for a pair of repossession agents.
On January 15, 2026, Moreno arrived to meet a pair of undercover ATF agents posing as repo men. After some discussion about purchasing a Glock pistol modified with an illegal machine gun conversion device (commonly called a “Glock switch”), Moreno handed the inquiring agent the weapon for inspection.

To Moreno’s surprise, that repossession security job was not at all what it appeared and he and another man were taken into custody.
Moreno, along with the other suspect, now face the full weight of federal justice, with detention hearings set for February 25, 2026, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Laura K. McNally.
The arrest was proudly announced by United States Attorney Andrew S. Boutros for the Northern District of Illinois and Christopher Amon, Special Agent-in-Charge of the ATF’s Chicago Field Division, with critical support from the Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad.
The government is being represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Saqib Mohammad Hussain in this high-stakes battle against illegal machine gun proliferation on the streets.
