“Let it go, Unc.”
Memphis, TN – January 23, 2026 – It was a routine transport of a BMW from a repossession companies storage yard. But a pair of armed men changed all that when they ambushed the driver at gunpoint.
Memphis Police detained two suspects following an armed carjacking at the United Auto Recovery lot on Getwell Road on Thursday morning.
A transporter was preparing to load a repossessed gray 2016 BMW 535 onto a trailer for transport to Georgia when two men in a gray Mercedes C300 pulled up.
One suspect, dressed in all black, got out of the Mercedes’ passenger side and jumped into the driver’s seat of the BMW.
When the victim approached the driver’s side and ordered the man to get out, the driver of the Mercedes rolled down his window, pointed a colorful handgun at the victim, and said, “Let it go, Unc.”
Both vehicles then fled northbound on Getwell.
The two suspects were later detained, though their identities have not been released. Police have not confirmed whether the stolen BMW was recovered.
