Farmington, MN – July 27, 2025 – A Saturday night repo in rural Farmington, Minnesota, what could go wrong? Well, a lot, but fortunately, one agent’s discretion proved to have paid off.

The Farmington Police Department reported an incident on Saturday the 26th at about 10pm involving a repossession that could have gone horribly wrong. The incident began as an unnamed repossession agent attempted recovery of a vehicle in a rural neighborhood on 220th Street near an old, abandoned golf course.

The agent claimed that he had already lifted the unit, when the suspect, a man well known by local law enforcement, emerged and engaged with the agent. Brandishing a gun, the man demanded the agent drop the vehicle.

Although the man reportedly did not aim the gun at him, wisely, the agent deescalated the situation. Lowering the vehicle, he fled the scene and contacted law enforcement.

The man, he fled as well and took the vehicle with him.

Responding officers soon located the vehicle abandoned nearby. A perimeter was immediately established, and a coordinated search effort began while a shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area.

Multiple agencies, including neighboring police departments, K9 units, and the Minnesota State Patrol’s air support, assisted in the search. Despite an extensive effort, the suspect was not located.

The Farmington Police stated that the suspect is well known to law enforcement and has multiple outstanding warrants. They did not, however, provide the suspect’s name at this time. Investigators do not believe the suspect remains in the area but are continuing their search for him actively.
