“I’ve got something for you”
Newport, TN – September 15, 2023 – Repo halfway completed, the borrower went scorched earth. Allegedly armed with a knife, he sent a Tennessee repossessor running before reportedly slashing up the tires.
Repossessing tires has often been an entry level duty for new Repossessors. A duty that is amongst the most dangerous in the business. And an agent from Addiction Recovery can testify to that fact in the aftermath of the incidents that occurred on September 9th.
According to a report by the Newport Police, officers responded to a call from agent Donald Cooper of Addiction Recovery over incidents reported to have occurred at 538 Freeman Avenue.
Cooper told officers that he had gone to the address to repossess a set of wheels and tires for his client; RNR Tire Express out of Knoxville. He had half the wheels off when all hell broke loose.
The borrower, 44-year-old Barry Morrison, emerged from the residence asking him what he was doing. According to Cooper, when he reported who he was and that it was a repossession, Morrison allegedly became agitated and started yelling and cursing at him.
Sept. 9 to Addiction Recovery on Cosby Highway for an investigation. Donald Cooper told NPD Officer Andy Oliver he went to 538 Freeman Avenue to repossess four wheels and tires for his company, RNR Tire Express out of Knoxville. Cooper advised that the person in possession of the property, later identified as Barry Morrison, 44, had violated his rental agreement with his company.
Morrison then is reported to have stated; “I’ve got something for you” and charge at him with a knife. Hands in the air, Cooper backed away advising Morrison that he didn’t want any trouble.
Cooper then stated that point Morrison backed away and took his temper out on the tires he had come to repossess. According to Cooper, Morrison then took the knife and drill bit on a handle which he then allegedly used to slash three of the four tires.
Cooper confirmed the damage with officers by showing them one of the tires that still had the drill bit stuck into it. Cooper confirmed with police by a photograph off the NPD’s CAD system that Morrison was the man he had engaged with.
The following day, officers on patrol spotted Morrison outside of his residence, where they made contact and placed him under arrest for aggravated assault and vandalism, Morrison was transported to the Cocke County Jail Annex.
