Atlanta, GA – July 12, 2023 – Probably as soon as he realized that he was being chased, they opened fire. Shot in the back, he lost control, crashed through a telephone pole, and flipped the car. Upside down, in shock, battered and shot, he laid in the wreckage as the pole’s transformers exploded igniting the trees around him ablaze. He’s lucky just to be alive.
At about 1:15am, Atlanta Police responded to reports of an accident and a shooting that occurred at the 2000 block of Perkerson Road in Southwest Atlanta. Upon arrival, they found a broken telephone pole and some trees on fire. Below it all, a wrecked vehicle sat flipped on its roof and lying on the driveway of a residence. By its side lay an unnamed victim, shot in the back.
One resident at the home, was Lyn Harrell who reported to local news, WSBTV, that “it woke me up from a sound sleep.” It then sent her and her husband rushing to the front window to see what had happened.

“And I just jumped up and looked out of the window and I saw a fire. the tree was on fire I guess because I guess the telephone pole was split,” Harrell said. “My initial reaction was to run over to the neighbors and let them know about the potential fire,”
But no sooner than they stepped outside, they found the wreckage of the car at the end of their driveway.
“The young man had already crawled out and he was just asking for help,” Harrell said. “So my husband was on the phone with 911 and all of the neighbors began to come out.”
They quickly discovered that the driver was suffering from a gunshot wound but was alert and conscious. “We later learned that he was just doing his job to repo a car and I guess he was attacked,” Harrell said.
According to police, just moments before the dramatic and fiery crash, the victim was attempting to repossess a car when someone started chasing him. He attempted to get away and that’s when an unknown person or persons in a white car began shooting.
According to reports, several bullets hit the victim in his back. This forced him to crash into a telephone pole before flipping through the air and landing just feet from a families front door.
“I thank God that everyone is safe. It could’ve been worse, but I’m glad he was able to be cared for,” Harrell later said.
A police spokesperson reported that they are still trying to figure out if the shooter was the owner of the car that was repossessed.
The unnamed agent was rushed to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
