Dallas, TX – An irate borrower shouting through the gates fired on a repossession agent as he pulled up. What he failed to remember was that in Texas, the probability of receiving return gunfire was extremely high. This intense interaction was caught on camera and audio.
In the video shared by company owner on social media with a Friday May 15th date stamp on the video, we can see an irate man shouting through the gates of this Texas repossession agency located outside of Dallas, when a black tow truck arrives and words are exchanged. In the Reddit version and twitter versions, the early parts of the borrower at the gate are edited out.
The angry man at the gates returns to the maroon mini-SUV he’d most likely arrived in and his shouting continues as a red tow truck bringing a vehicle to the lot arrives. As the mini-SUV backs away and is near the road, the borrower opens fire. Three rounds struck the black tow truck’s rear window. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured.
And that’s when all hell breaks loose. The agent in the red truck jumped out of his truck, gun drawn and cranking out half a dozen rounds or so in self-defense. Endorphins kicking in, the driver of the mini-SUV, probably hit with the return gun fire, punches the gas. In a panic, they swerve off of the road into the grass out and of control for a moment before returning to the highway and speeding away. But it doesn’t end there.
The agent in the black tow truck, likely armed as well, turns and takes to the chase as another armed, assumed employee of the repossession company emerges from behind the gates and on camera.
It is unknown if the tow truck caught up to them or what exactly transpired after, but according to the social media post, the borrower was arrested. The driver was released after reporting to officers that she was unaware of the borrower’s intentions and was merely forced to drive after the gunfire started.
It is both fortunate that no one was seriously injured and that apparently, everyone at this agency was armed and the borrower was too frightened to fire any more pot shots at the agents. I have never been a proponent of agents arming themselves in the field, but this incident is a compelling argument.
As I’ve said for years, the dangers of the repossession industry do not end at the driveway. The video widely circulated in social media, brings to memory the 2022 shooting of Jamie King in Philadelphia in which he was returning with another vehicle when the borrower pulled up and opened fire.
Repossession volume is increasing and the public is feeling the economic pains creating desperation and desperation makes people do stupid things. Keep your heads on a swivel out there. From the driveway to the gas pumps, the gate at the yard and even inside the lot, there is no safe place in the repossession industry.
Take precautions, don’t let your guards down and watch your backs people. No car is worth dying for.
