Fort Worth, TX – December 29, 2021 – Fort Worth Police have released the identity of the shooter of a recovery agent last week that led to a car chase and the evacuation of a mall before Christmas. Police have also released details of the event and are asking the public for help.
Julio Soto, 18, has been identified as one of the suspects in the shooting case that occurred on December 21st at about 11:45 a.m. It was then that officers responded to the shooting call at 5920 Vermillion Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered the injured repossession agent who explained that he was attempting to repossess a car when two male suspects approached him with guns.
According to police testimony, one suspect entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Soto pointed a gun at the agent and demanded that he “drop the vehicle.”
Although the agent complied with Soto’s demands, he and the other suspect opened fire anyway.
The still unnamed recovery agent was struck in the left arm and managed to capture a photo pf Soto before driving away to safety.
Soto and the others, including a 7-year-old child, got into the vehicle and drove away. Officers contacted the lender who the vehicle was financed through and activated its GPS, which allowed them to track the vehicle down.
As police closed in, Soto, led them in a chase at speeds of over 100 mph, until he exited westbound I-20 at Hulen and struck a wall. Soto then fled in the vehicle to Hulen Mall, striking the concrete barriers near Macy’s.
The child was left in the vehicle while the others fled on foot, including Soto and a juvenile female suspect. Two suspects were apprehended at the scene.
Police Investigators believe that Soto fired the gunshots at the repossessor, was the driver of the vehicle during the chase and endangered the 7-year-old child’s life while in unlawful possession of a weapon. Four warrants have been issued for his arrest: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, abandoning/endangering a child, evading arrest, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Soto has not been located and Fort Worth Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 817-392-4576.
